Wednesday, October 10, 2018- President Trump participates in the signing of two bills that will lower drug prices S. 2553 (Know the Lowest Drug Price Act) and S. 2554 – Patients Right to Know Drug Prices Act in the Roosevelt Room of the White House. Lowering prices that the federal government pays for drugs was another promise made by the President during the election.
SB 2553 is described as: “A bill to amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to prohibit Medicare part D plans from restricting pharmacies from informing individuals regarding the prices for certain drugs and biologicals.”
On SB 2554, the bill describes how: “Americans overspend by an estimated $135 million on prescriptions through their insurance, in cases when they would cost less out of pocket. Yet pharmacists are often under gag orders from telling customers about that discrepancy.” The bill is to rectify that discrepency.
United States Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar also spoke at the event, lending context to what the bills may accomplish for Amreicans.
